Rise In Fuel Cost A Blow For Fleet Operators

MIDDLESEX, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwire - Dec. 1, 2009) - Fleet Insurance specialists Flint Insurance have reacted to recent news of rises in the price of fuel, which is a major blow for most of their clients at the end of a tough year of trading.

The volatile state of the oil market has contributed to the cost of fuel soaring to over Pounds Sterling 5 a gallon. This is expected to rise even further, when the Government's proposed increase in VAT comes into force in the New Year.

The price of a litre of diesel now stands at around Pounds Sterling 1.10, representing an increase of 3.78p over the year. Since December 2008, the cost of crude oil has risen from $35 a barrel to an astonishing $80 a barrel in recent days. This increase has been put down to speculators trading in oil as a commodity and many have accused oil companies in being too quick to put up prices at the pumps.

Based in Harrow, Middlesex, Flint Insurance is an independent insurance broker, offering a wide range of high quality, affordable insurance products to both personal and commercial clients. In addition to general insurance products such as motor and household cover, they also provide a range of niche insurance for businesses, with solutions tailored to organisations in all sectors. A spokesperson for the company commented:

"This price rise is a devastating blow for all Flint Fleet Insurance clients and with many already struggling due to the recession; this is an untimely piece of bad news."

"There are, however, a number of measures that drivers can take to reduce their fuel consumption and hence save money. These include driving more slowly, avoiding excessive breaking, making sure that tyres are correctly inflated and not carrying any unnecessary cargo. We would urge fleet operators to take on board these suggestions, as well as contacting us, in order to see if we can save them money on the cost of their fleet insurance premiums."
