CIO Boot Camp: Private Cloud, Public Cloud or Hybrid Networks: Determining What's Right for Your Business

Who: Mitch Walters, vice president of information technology, Rayonier
Nik Rouda, director of product marketing, Riverbed
When: Monday, April 26, 9:30 a.m. - 10:00 a.m.
Where: Room South Seas D
What: Mitch Walters, vice president of information technology at Rayonier, will discuss the company's private cloud initiative, which included the deployment of Riverbed WAN optimization solutions to consolidate and virtualize eight data centers down to two, without diminishing end user performance. As a result, Rayonier cut its bandwidth utilization by 70 to 90 percent and is experiencing up to 18 times faster application performance across key applications. Walters will also address a reasonable approach to evaluating the benefits versus the risks of public, private or hybrid cloud computing and how IT managers and CIOs can begin to think differently about providing cloud services.

Riverbed Drives Discussions on IT Infrastructure and Cloud Performance
Interop keynotes and sessions will focus on the future of business technology and how to leverage new technologies to increase productivity and improve collaboration. Riverbed executives will lead discussions at several conference sessions:

Conference Session: Connecting On-Premise and On-Demand with Hybrid Clouds
Who: Dr. Mark Stuart Day, chief scientist, Riverbed
When: Monday, April 26, 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
Where: Room South Seas B
What: Enterprises are finally ready to move mission-critical applications to the Cloud but there is one catch: how are they going to merge tomorrow's cloud technology with today's legacy systems? This session will give IT professionals real-world data on how to create and manage a successful hybrid cloud computing environment.
Conference Session: Optimizing the Performance of Cloud Computing
Who: Apurva Davé, vice president of product marketing, Riverbed
When: Wednesday, April 28, 3:15 p.m. - 4:15 p.m.
Where: Room Lagoon L
What: One result of the movement to use more private and public cloud computing solutions is that it increases the likelihood that IT resources will be accessed over a relatively low capacity, high latency WAN. Even worse, in some cases these IT resources will be accessed over multiple WAN links. The panelists on this session will identify both the performance challenges associated with cloud computing as well as myriad technologies and services that IT organizations can use to mitigate the impact of those challenges.
Conference Session: What Virtualization Means to the Branch Office
Who: Apurva Davé, vice president of product marketing, Riverbed
When: Thursday, April 29, 9:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m.
Where: Room Lagoon L
What: Most IT organizations are taking IT resources such as servers, applications and storage out of branch offices and placing them in centralized data centers. This raises some critical questions: How can IT organizations overcome the impediments to the broad deployment of virtual desktops? Should the next generation branch office be serverless? What type of device(s) needs to still be in the branch office and how is it managed? What techniques can be used to overcome the performance issues? The speakers on this panel will answer those questions and will present alternative designs for your next-generation branch office.
