Riverbed Steelhead Appliance Named a 2008 Editor's Best Awards Winner by Windows IT Pro Magazine

SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwire - August 1, 2008) - Riverbed Technology (NASDAQ: RVBD), the technology and market leader in wide-area data services (WDS), today announced that its Steelhead® appliance was named as a silver medal winner of the "2008 Editor's Best Awards" in the Hardware category by Penton Media's Windows IT Pro magazine. In order to qualify, products must demonstrate significant performance gains to the customer at a considerable value as determined by Windows IT Pro and SQL Server Magazine editorial staff.

Riverbed® Steelhead appliances provide value to organizations that share data and collaborate between distributed offices by offering significant performance improvements for a broad range of applications that are important to their businesses. Organizations that deploy Steelhead appliances are able to simplify their IT infrastructure and typically realize significant capital and operational cost savings.

In the company's latest product release, Riverbed Optimization System (RiOS®) 5.0, Riverbed expanded its support for Microsoft Exchange environments and became the first WDS vendor to deliver a protocol optimization specifically for the Exchange 2007 protocol (MAPI 2K7) at the application layer. Riverbed is the only vendor that provides application-level optimization for Exchange 2000, 2003, and 2007. Most recently, Riverbed announced that it has been accepted in the Microsoft Protocol Optimization Licensing Program (POLP), which gives Riverbed access to Microsoft's intellectual property and technology so that Riverbed can build on its expertise and success accelerating and optimizing Microsoft Windows-based applications over the wide-area network (WAN).

"The 2008 Editor's Best Awards utilize our editors' product knowledge and subject matter expertise to identify exceptional products that benefit the Windows IT Pro and SQL Server Magazine reader communities," said Jeff Lewis, group publisher. "Our editors selected winners based on the product's strategic importance to the market, its competitive advantages, and its value to the customer."

"Riverbed is continuously focused on answering and exceeding the needs of our customers, which consists of providing the necessary solutions to improve employee productivity for geographically dispersed companies. Our goal is a faster, more connected world," said Eric Wolford, senior vice president of marketing and business development at Riverbed. "This recognition from Windows IT Pro and the positive feedback we receive from customers demonstrates that we are effectively meeting that goal."
