Riverside Medical Center's Newberry Receives the 2010 Helen Heyrman Award

KANKAKEE, IL--(Marketwire - June 21, 2010) -  Mary Newberry, Riverside Medical Center's director of Home Health Care and Outpatient Infusion, recently received the Illinois HomeCare Council's 2010 Helen Heyrman Award. The award recognizes individuals working in home health care in Illinois who go above and beyond in service, leadership, and involvements with the home care industry.

Jan Costello, Executive Director of the Illinois HomeCare Council, praised Ms. Newberry's commitment to home healthcare in Illinois. "Mary is an exceptional advocate as a community leader, board leader, and in Washington, D.C. where she stressed to lawmakers and government officials, the importance, cost efficiency, and necessity of the home care and Hospice industries in the nation."

The Illinois HomeCare Council represents Hospice and HomeCare agencies for the residents utilizing home healthcare in Illinois. It also acts on behalf of similar companies within the state, as well as surrounding states and federal organizations.

The mission of Hospice and HomeCare agencies is to affirm the cycle of life by enhancing the quality of living for those at the end of life. These organizations implement their mission on a day-to-day basis by helping and supporting terminally or chronically ill patients.

"I have been involved with our state association for many years, working alongside other home care and hospice providers throughout Illinois," said Newberry.

"My efforts, along with my peers in the industry, have been devoted to improving the care provided to patients through our services, as well as in advocating for fair and equitable benefits for our patients," said Newberry. "It is truly an honor to receive this award, especially because it stands for something that I love to do."

Newberry has been working with both Riverside and the Illinois HomeCare Council for several years and has consistently aided both organizations through perseverance and strong dedication.

"I think her ability to guide this association has been a tremendous blessing to the industry as a whole and has created a legacy for years to come," said Costello. "Newberry is the epitome of the message home care and Hospice industries are trying to get across."
