Robert Goluch Appointed to the Competition Tribunal

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Aug. 7, 2009) - The Honourable Tony Clement, Minister of Industry and Minister responsible for the Competition Tribunal, today announced the appointment of Dr. Robert Goluch as a lay member of the Tribunal.

"Dr. Goluch's experience in education, economics and sociology will be of great value to the Tribunal," said Minister Clement. "His knowledge in these areas will help the Tribunal as it hears and renders decisions on various competition matters."

Dr. Goluch was Executive Director, Public School Finance Board, for Manitoba's Department of Education, Citizenship and Youth from 1994 to 2005. From 1992 to 1994, he was Executive Director, Universities Grants Commission, for Manitoba's Department of Education and Training.

Dr. Goluch obtained his Ph.D. in Adult Education from Walden University in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and his M.A. in Economics and Managerial Sociology from the University of Ottawa. He holds a B.A. in Sociology from the Universite de Montreal.

The Competition Tribunal is a specialized tribunal that combines expertise in economics and business with legal expertise. It is composed of judicial and non-judicial, or lay, members. The Tribunal is a strictly adjudicative body that operates independently of any government department.
