Ronald McDonald House Charities® Wishes the McDonald's® Happy Meal® a Very Happy Birthday

Local media support Ronald McDonald House Charities in delivering a special coast-to-coast birthday card

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Sept. 2, 2009) - Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC®) of Canada is helping celebrate the 15th Anniversary of the McDonald's Happy Meal nationwide. The introduction of the Happy Meal in Canada lead to the development of the 10 Cent Happy Meal program in January 2004. The program has contributed to the continued growth of Ronald McDonald House Charities of Canada, allowing RMHC to further its mission of helping kids and supporting families across Canada.

"In five short years, McDonald's 10 cent Happy Meal Program has raised $25 million for Ronald McDonald House Charities of Canada, showing that small change can make a very big difference in the lives of Canadian kids and families," said Richard Ellis, President, Ronald McDonald House Charities of Canada. "On behalf of RMHC and the Canadian kids and families we support, I'd like to thank McDonald's and their Franchisees, and their customers for their longstanding commitment to helping RMHC make a difference in communities across Canada."

To kick-off the celebration, RMHC Canada will partner with local media to deliver a special coast-to-coast birthday card for the Happy Meal. Through their support, Canadian communities touched by RMHC will have the opportunity to send a special birthday message as the card travels across the country.

McDonald's 10 Cent Happy Meal Donation program is RMHC Canada's largest source of funding. Through this program, 10 cents from the sale of every Happy Meal sold everyday goes to RMHC Canada. Over the past five years, the 10 Cent Happy Meal program has raised $25 million for RMHC Canada. This tremendous support has enabled RMHC Canada to grow and reach more kids and families than ever before through its support of every Canadian Ronald McDonald House®, the Ronald McDonald Family Room® Program and by awarding grants to many other children's charities across the country.

"It is an exciting time for RMHC Canada as we continue to grow and reach more kids and families," adds Ellis. "Through the projected growth of our cornerstone program, the Ronald McDonald House program, we will work with the Houses across Canada to double, if not triple, the number of families who seek comfort at a Ronald McDonald House each night."
