Royal Roads Announces 2005 Exploration Program

CALGARY, ALBERTA--(CCNMatthews - Jan. 5, 2005) - Robert B. Fraleigh,
President of Royal Roads Corp. (TSX VENTURE:RRO), is pleased to announce
preliminary details of the Corporation's 2005 exploration program
commencing in January, 2005 on its 100% owned 16,075 hectare Tulks North
base-precious metal property located in the prolific Buchans mining
district in north-central Newfoundland.

Exploration to date in the property area has delineated eight VMS-style
polymetallic base metal deposits, mineralized showings and/or alteration
zones. The most advanced is the Daniel's Pond deposit, a VMS-style
copper-lead-zinc-gold-silver deposit discovered in 1989 by BP Resources
Canada ("BP"). BP drilled a total of 38 holes and traced the NE-trending
steeply SE-dipping host zone over a strike length of 1.21 km to a
maximum vertical depth of 325 m. Further exploration drilling by Royal
Roads in 2002 and 2003 extended the strike length and vertical depth of
the zone. A significant portion of the Daniel's Pond deposit is located
at or near surface.

The Daniel's Pond deposit is located 28 km west of the Aur Resources
Inc. (AUR-TSX) Duck Pond/Boundary deposits which Aur Resources recently
announced it would spend $92 million to develop. Aur Resources has
estimated that the Duck Pond/Boundary deposits have combined proven and
probable reserves of 4.1 million tonnes grading 5.7% zinc, 3.3% copper,
59 g/t silver and 0.9 g/t gold (Aur Resources, Press Release, December
14, 2004). The Daniel's Pond deposit is also located approximately 15
kilometres along trend to the north east of Messina Mineral's recently
announced Boomerang discovery (Messina Minerals, Press Release December
12, 2004).

Using drilling results reported by BP and Royal Roads, Taiga Consultants
Ltd, an independent Calgary-based consulting firm, calculated the
inferred mineral resource for the Daniel's Pond shown in the following
table. The high grade lens portion of the Daniel's Pond deposit contains
an estimated 1.8 million tons, or approximately 44% of the reserves at
Aur's Duck Pond/ Boundary deposit.

The technical report from which the figures are quoted (Technical Report
on the Tulks North base metal deposit, M. D. Jamieson, Taiga Consultants
Ltd. February 17, 2004) is filed on SEDAR.

The zone of higher-grade mineralization is exposed at surface and has
been delineated by drilling to a maximum vertical depth of 200 meters.
The bulk of the zone occurs above 100 meters depth suggesting it could
be developed by an open pit or shallow decline.

Work to date by Royal Roads has demonstrated that the zone hosting the
deposit is open along strike and below 400 meters vertical depth.
Moreover, two infill holes drilled by Royal Roads in 2003 indicate the
strike continuity is such that the resource category could likely be
upgraded with further shallow infill drilling.

In furtherance of the foregoing, the Corporation intends to drill seven
(7) holes on the Daniel's Pond deposit to infill and extend the deposit.
The Corporation has made arrangements for a drill crew to commence
drilling in January, 2005.

In addition, a road is presently being constructed to a new prospect
known as the Daniel's Pond Extension, some seven (7) kilometres
northeast of the Daniel's Pond deposit. Intentions are to test by
drilling a combined weak airborne VLF-EM conductor combined with a
soil/overburden geochemical base metal/silver anomaly. In the opinion of
Management, this prospect has the same signature features that led to
the discovery of the Daniel's Pond deposit. The total number of holes to
be drilled will depend on the results of each hole, although it is
anticipated that four (4) holes will be drilled. It is expected that all
drilling on the Daniel's Pond and the Daniel's Pond Extension will be
completed prior to the end of March, 2005.

Sampling and reporting related to information contained in the Taiga
Report was conducted under the direct supervision of Peter Dadson,
P.Geol., Royal Road's Qualified Person in charge of the exploration
program. Mr. Dadson has reviewed and verified all technical mining
information contained in the Taiga Report and contained in this news
release.
