Ryder Earns ISO 14001 Certification for Environmental Management Program in Brazil

MIAMI, FL--(Marketwire - November 15, 2007) - Ryder System, Inc. (NYSE: R), a global leader in supply chain, warehousing and transportation management solutions, today announced it has earned the ISO 14001 certification for its environmental management program supporting Toyota Mercosur's logistics operations in Brazil and Argentina.

ISO 14001, an international management standard designed to strengthen environmental performance, defines the requirements for an environmental management system. These requirements include: establishing an environmental policy; determining the impact of certain products/activities/services; planning environmental objectives and measurable targets; and the implementation and operation of programs to meet objectives and management review.

"This certification is an extension of Ryder's commitment to minimizing our impact on the environment and our continued effort to align our operations with the best practices of our industry-leading customers," said Antonio Wrobleski, Managing Director for Ryder Brazil.

Some key environmental initiatives supporting Toyota's operations in Indaiatuba, Brazil, that have been further strengthened include processes that reduce solid waste in packaging, ecologically sound maintenance practices, and an environmentally safe fleet washing system that uses biodegradable cleaning solutions and incorporates a water treatment and recycling system. In addition, carbon dioxide emissions have been curbed by using more efficient equipment with speed control technology, optimizing routes and cargo loads, reducing idling, and keeping maintenance facilities in close proximity to operations.

Ryder operates an ISO compliant quality system and environmental management system for each business unit and has obtained ISO certification for specific customers. Ryder has achieved ISO 9001 and 14001 certifications at several customer sites including locations in the U.S., Brazil, Canada, Mexico and the United Kingdom.
