SHOP.COM™ Survey and Social Media Game Reveals 'Who's Your Mommy?'

Most Describe Their Mom as a 'Gardening Goddess'

MONTEREY, CA--(Marketwire - May 6, 2010) - Is the blunt, sometimes outrageous Sharon Osbourne a dead ringer for your mom? What about TV's favorite renaissance mom, Carol Brady? The two very different maternal figures were named "Most Like Mom" by the highest percentage of respondents in the latest TwoSense Mother's Day survey by SHOP.COM, the comparison shopping site for busy women. When asked to define their mom, the majority of respondents call her a "gardening goddess" (36 percent) or a "domestic diva" (27 percent), as opposed to "mama fashionista" (18 percent) or "gadget guru" (19 percent).

SHOP.COM also debuted a social media game on Facebook called "Who's Your Mommy?" The object of the game is for Facebook users to tag their moms or friends according to different types of moms. Once tagged, moms and friends will have a picture on their profile to show what type of mom they are. The game is available until Sunday, May 9.

Nearly a third of survey respondents (31 percent) say they'll give mom flowers this year. But, it seems that on Mother's Day what you give isn't a good indicator of what you'd like to get. Among respondents who are moms themselves most want to receive jewelry (30 percent) as gifts. At the same time, nearly three-quarters (74 percent) of respondents plan to spend less than $100. If money were no object, 68 percent say they'd buy mom a trip to Hawaii. The tropical vacation drew far more responses than even diamonds, which were chosen by only 16 percent of the sample.

"The SHOP.COM Mother's Day survey shows gifts that add a little cheer, such as flowers, pampering and time spent together, may trump 'bling' or other lavish presents," said Simona Supekar, Communications Manager for SHOP.COM. "People honor their mom by spending time with her, not with extravagant items." Supekar also serves as editor for SHOP.COM's The Shopping Vine, which includes affordable gift ideas and seasonal trends throughout the year.

What else can moms expect this Mother's Day? Survey respondents say they'll offer their mom the opportunity to sleep in (29 percent); a shopping spree (21 percent); and breakfast in bed (15 percent).

Regifting Okay for Mom?
When asked if they've ever regifted on Mother's Day, 85 percent say mom always deserves an original purchase. However, nearly 15 percent of respondents reveal they've resorted to an item they had on hand, or plead the fifth, leaving open the possibility that they have regifted at some point.
