TORONTO,
ONTARIO--(Marketwire - March 14, 2010) - The Special
Investigations (SIU) is investigating the circumstances surrounding a motor
vehicle collision that occurred on Highway 417 near the Woodroffe Avenue
interchange in Ottawa. On Sunday, March 14, 2010, shortly after midnight, a red
Honda Civic collided with a black, unmarked, Ottawa Police Service SUV that was
stopped on the shoulder of the westbound lanes of Highway 417.
The
adult female occupant of the Honda Civic was taken to hospital with serious
injuries.

SIU is appealing for anyone who witnessed this incident to contact the Unit at

The SIU is a civilian agency that investigates cases of
serious injuries (including allegations of sexual assault) and deaths involving
the police. Pursuant to section 113 of the Police Services Act, the Director of
the SIU is mandated to consider whether a criminal offence has been committed
by an officer(s) in connection with the incident under investigation and, where
warranted by the evidence, to cause a criminal charge or charges to be laid
against the officer(s). The Director reports the results of investigations to
the Attorney General.
