SIU Swears-in Three Investigators

Attention: News Editor TORONTO--(CCNMatthews - Sept. 16, 2005) - Three investigators were sworn-in today during a ceremony presided by Mr. Justice John Sutherland.

The swearing-in ceremony follows a week of orientation training at the SIU office. Joining the SIU as a full-time investigator is Oliver Gordon, who has 15 years of experience working as an investigator with the Solicitor General of Canada. Also joining the team as as-needed investigators are Ian Hollingworth, who has 30 years of experience with the Greater Manchester Police Force specializing in covert surveillance operations and training and Oleksandr (Alex) Kravchenko, who has 12 years of experience working in military and police forces in the Ukraine and is fluent in 5 languages.

The SIU's investigative team is now comprised of 47 people.

The SIU is a civilian agency that investigates circumstances involving police and civilians which have resulted in serious injury, sexual assault or death. Under Part VII, Section 113, of the Police Services Act, the Director of the SIU has the sole authority to decide whether or not charges are warranted based on the findings of a complete investigation. The Director's decision is reported to the Attorney General.
