SMART Modular Technologies Introduces Industry's First 8GB DDR2 CoolFlex Mini-Registered DIMM

Leveraging SMART's CoolFlex and DDP technologies, the New 8GB Mini-RDIMMs Provide the Highest Memory Density in the Smallest Form Factor

FREMONT, CA--(Marketwire - October 30, 2007) - SMART Modular Technologies (WWH), Inc. (SMART) (NASDAQ: SMOD), a leading independent manufacturer of memory modules, embedded computing subsystems, and TFT-LCD display products, has expanded its DDR2 family to include the industry's first 8GB PC2-5300 244-pin Mini-registered DIMM (RDIMM) designed using CoolFlex and dual die package (DDP) technologies. The new Mini-RDIMM is particularly well suited for high-density, space-constrained networking and storage applications.

Configured as a 1Gx72, 4-rank module using SMART-built 2Gb (512Mx4) DDPs, this new RoHS-compliant memory module is the industry's first 8GB DDR2 Mini-RDIMM designed with CoolFlex foldable printed circuit board (PCB) technology. CoolFlex is a unique technology that doubles memory capacity by allowing 36 DRAM placements on four sides.

In order to reduce loading and improve signal integrity, the new 8GB DDR2 CoolFlex Mini-RDIMM has been designed with two registers and two phase locked loops (PLLs). Following the JEDEC standard pin-out, SMART's new Mini-RDIMMs incorporate the necessary error correction code functionality to satisfy many types of data-sensitive applications. Offering great versatility in implementation, the SMART Mini-RDIMMs can be mounted with vertical, right-angled, or angled sockets.

"SMART recognizes that the industry continues to drive towards greater memory capacity in smaller form factors," stated Arthur Sainio, SMART's Senior DRAM Product Marketing Manager. "With this new 8GB DDR2 CoolFlex Mini-RDIMM, we are addressing this demand as well as offering the flexibility of socketing options to satisfy the memory requirements for a wide range of storage, networking, telecom, and server applications."

The ordering part number for SMART's new 8GB DDR2 CoolFlex Mini-RDIMM is listed in the table below.
