SMART Modular Technologies Launches DDR3 Unbuffered DIMMs

Next Generation DDR3 Technology Targeted for High-End Desktop Systems Running at 1.5V and up to a 1333 MHz Data Rate

FREMONT, CA--(Marketwire - June 4, 2007) - SMART Modular Technologies (WWH), Inc. (SMART) (NASDAQ: SMOD), a leading independent manufacturer of memory modules, embedded computing subsystems, and TFT-LCD display products, has launched its DDR3 unbuffered DIMM product family. To address the projected needs of DDR3-enabled high-end desktop systems, SMART has begun supporting DDR3 unbuffered DIMMs ranging from 512MB to 2GB.

Providing improved system speeds (up to 667Mhz/1333MHz data rate), lower power consumption (1.5V vs. 1.8V for DDR2) and larger memory densities from DDR2, DDR3 technology allows original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and original design manufacturers (ODMs) to design systems with higher performance and larger overall memory capacities. SMART is launching its lineup of DDR3 unbuffered DIMMs to provide early support for system builders and integrators.

SMART's launch of DDR3 modules supports the industry release plans from both JEDEC and Intel. "SMART recognizes the expected proliferation of DDR3 technology in next generation desktop systems," said Doug DiMaio, Director of Sales for SMART's Channel Business Division. "Ramping up our efforts now will help position SMART to take advantage of this market."

SMART's DDR3 modules undergo rigorous testing to ensure robust system operation. A listing of SMART's DDR3 modules and part numbers is provided in the table below.
