SOLAR ENERGY + APPLICATIONS 2008 -- Solarmer Energy, Inc. to Present on Panel of Organic Solar Cell Experts

SAN DIEGO, CA--(Marketwire - August 7, 2008) - On behalf of Solarmer Energy, Inc., Dr. Gang Li will be presenting at SPIE's Solar Energy + Applications 2008 in San Diego, California, on August 13, 2008. This conference is focused on the critical research challenges that must be met in order to make secure, affordable, and environmentally sustainable energy a reality. Dr. Li, Solarmer's Director of Research, was invited to speak as part of a group of experts addressing accuracy in measuring the performance of organic photovoltaics.

"Solarmer Energy has set itself an aggressive goal of reaching 8% efficiency in a post-it sized plastic solar cell by the second half of 2009," said Li. "Ensuring the accuracy of our results is essential to our plans, and we are grateful to be given this opportunity to share best practices with other leaders in this area."

Solarmer has defined its commercial grade prototype as having 8% efficiency and 3+ years lifetime in a solar cell that is at least 50 cm squared and plans to demonstrate this prototype in approximately 15 months. Key to achieving this goal is Solarmer's device engineering expertise, which allows them to provide up to 20% efficiency improvements to any material's performance.

Solarmer's plastic solar cells will be translucent, flexible, and lightweight, which will open up new applications for solar cells, particularly in the digital portable electronics industry and to support off-grid, outdoor lifestyle applications such as providing lighting for campers and hikers.

"I am confident that we have identified the path to achieving our R&D goals," said Woolas Hsieh, founder and President of Solarmer. "It is now time to turn our focus to the application side and begin planning for product launch."
