SWMS's Labguard™ to Meet New FDA Safety Regulations

TAMPA, FL -- (MARKET WIRE) -- August 9, 2005 -- Southwestern Medical Solutions, Inc. (OTC: SWNM) is pleased to announce that its soon-to-be-launched Labguard™ system will comply with, or exceed, the new OSHA Universal Precautions that have been introduced for the protection of employees, patients, test administrators, doctors and other healthcare workers against potential contamination.

Increasingly Strict Standards Strengthen Labguard™ Market Launch

The acclaimed Labguard™ specimen collection and evaluation device is being readied for market launch at a crucial point in the healthcare industry's safety and precautionary timelines. It will represent the first device of its kind to meet OSHA's Universal Precautions 'infection control system,' which assumes that every direct contact with blood and body fluids is potentially infectious. The system is based on the premise that not all patients with infections have been diagnosed and, therefore, precautions must be applied universally. The Labguard™ gives the utmost security to the caregiver following these recently introduced, more stringent OSHA guidelines.

Labguard™ Also Meets OSHA's Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Enactment

Personal protective equipment (PPE) refers to barrier equipment designed to shield the employee against blood and body fluid contamination. This equipment, which includes gloves, fluid resistant masks and gowns, splash shields and eye protection, is used whenever there is a risk of exposure to blood or other potentially infectious material. The supply and repair of PPE is the responsibility of the employer. Non-employee health care professionals such as physicians and contractors must comply with the facility's Exposure Control Plan and use of PPE. This compliance is to insure their own safety as well as the safety of the facility's employees and patients. The type and characteristics of the equipment must be appropriate for the task being performed and the degree of exposure anticipated. In exposure-prone procedures such as specimen collection and diagnosis, employees may require more extensive barrier protection. The Labguard™ will provide this protection while at the same time lessening the protocol burdens of the caregiver.

The Labguard™ system represents a new generation of diagnostic testing that will greatly enhance the accuracy of the tests performed, the safety of the administrators, and reduce the ability of any tampering of specimens. SWNM is poised to bring this product to market through its many distributor alliances including international markets and OEM license of the product to two of the largest laboratory distributors in the U.S. Once the Labguard™ is off and running, and sales are realized, the Company will then direct its efforts toward the market launch of its proprietary safety needle device, the exciting Protect-A-Pal™, which the Company views as offering a major improvement in safety and ease-of-use over conventional needle safety systems -- at a much lower cost to end users!
