Saint Joseph's Oratory Unveils Its Summer Activities

MONTRÉAL, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - June 21, 2010) - The hearts are overjoyed at Saint Joseph's Oratory with the upcoming canonization of Brother André coming soon on October 17. The Oratory's entire team invites visitors from far and wide, and particularly fellow Montrealers and people from all regions of Québec, to discover or rediscover the many facets of its exceptional site.

A world-renowned pilgrimage destination, Saint Joseph's Oratory opens its doors to people of all lands and creeds seeking to continue their spiritual journey. "Brother André continues to attract crowds on Mount Royal! Through our team, he welcomes thousands of tourists and pilgrims. When you visit us this summer, take a relaxing break and enjoy the beauty of this unique jewel of our heritage as a preview to all the celebrations surrounding the canonization of Brother André!" says Father Claude Grou, CSC, Rector of Saint-Joseph's Oratory of Mount Royal.

Discovering Brother André

This year, Brother André's Faith Journey - a themed exhibit now more relevant than ever - will continue everyday this summer, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., at the Oratory museum. It aims to show the rich spirituality of the Oratory's founder, while offering a glimpse of the past to any who wish to learn more about Québec's history.

The Oratory shows its colours… and its summer flair

In an enchanting setting, offering one of Montreal's best vistas, the Oratory's breathtaking gardens are open to visitors until October, between 7:30 a.m. and 9:30 p.m. Several themed guided tours on religious symbolism and horticultural arts are also offered to groups during weekend, with reservations only. Boasting 56 bells, the Oratory's carillon offers music lovers a truly magical experience. It will feature its summer stylings at the Pilgrims' Pavilion every Sunday, from July 11 to August 22, at 2:30 p.m., through the skillful hands of Oratory carillonists, Andrée-Anne Doane and Claude Aubin. Guest artists from Europe and United States will also attend.

Month of August dedicated to Brother André

Blessed Brother André's birthday, Monday, August 9, will be celebrated as it should on this auspicious year, namely through a thanksgiving mass followed by a candlelight procession which will take place on Monday, August 9, at 7:30 p.m. Furthermore, on Sundays, August 1, 8, 15 and 22, from noon to 4:00 p.m., Brother André's Open House will enable visitors to discover more about this extraordinary, humble and visionary man. A detailed program will be available online at www.saint-joseph.org in July. The month will end on a high note on Sunday, August 29, with the traditional pilgrimage to Mont-Saint-Grégoire, Brother André's birthplace. As we celebrate this year the canonization of a son of the diocese of Saint-Hyacinthe, a close cooperation with the local community will give this year's pilgrimage – which will start from the parish church at 11:00 a.m. - a renewed flavour.

All information on the Oratory's summer programming, including activities, full schedules, reservation details and costs can be found on its new website, at www.saint-joseph.org.

Let's also recall that a grand religious ceremony marking the canonization of Brother André will take place on October 30, starting at 2 p.m. at the Olympic Stadium. For this major event, seat reservations are required at the nominal cost of five dollars ($5), plus services charges ($2).
