Sample6 DETECT/L(TM) Awarded AOAC-RI Certification

Company Continues Mission to Make Food Safer by Modernizing Pathogen Detection

BOSTON, MA--(Marketwired - Apr 9, 2014) - Sample6 today announced that DETECT/L™, the only enrichment-free, single-shift pathogen diagnostic for Listeria species, has been awarded AOAC Certification (#041401) from the AOAC Research Institute's Performance Tested Methods (PTM(SM)) Program. Sample6 is conducting live demos of DETECT/L today and tomorrow at The Food Safety Summit in Baltimore. Stop by Booth #541 to sign up.

According to the CDC, approximately 48 million people (one in six Americans) get sick from foodborne illnesses each year, while 128,000 are hospitalized and 3,000 die. Listeria, the target of DETECT/L, has the highest mortality rate of any foodborne illness.

"OSI is committed to maintaining our high food safety and quality standards. We strive to seek and implement the most innovative and effective ways to maintain the integrity of the food we process. Sample6 offers an easy, proactive way to effectively test for pathogens and keep our products and customers safe," notes Sharon Birkett, Vice President, North American Quality and Food Protection, OSI Group.

Sample6 DETECT/L is the company's first diagnostic assay and quickly identifies Listeria species contamination in food processing environments. It is the only in-shift, enrichment-free AOAC Listeria species assay and dramatically reduces the time needed to conduct accurate tests. Designed with a focus on rapid detection and ease of use, the entire test only takes a few minutes of hands-on time per sample and delivers results onsite in less than eight hours -- a single production shift.

"AOAC is the gold standard in validation for food safety diagnostics and indicates a high standard of product that users can have confidence in," noted David Acheson M.D., President and CEO of The Acheson Group LLC.

The AOAC Research Institute bases certification on independent study results and rigorous comparison tests that verify all claims. Sample6 DETECT/L is more sensitive than the reference method, USDA Microbiological Laboratory Guide (MLG) Method 8.09, for detecting Listeria in the environment.

Part of the groundbreaking Sample6 Bioillumination Platform™, DETECT/L is the first in-plant, in-shift diagnostic. Together with Sample6 CONTROL™, the company's revolutionary software platform, it delivers immediate, actionable pathogen detection and software needed to control food-processing plants.

"The AOAC Certification is an outstanding validation of our Bioillumination Platform," added Sample6 CEO Tim Curran. "It's clear that the food industry considers consumer safety the highest priority based on the resounding support of our pilot program -- the food companies involved played a critical role in helping us reach this milestone. Our goal is for DETECT/L and CONTROL to become a standard step in the safety procedures of food companies around the globe to keep food and consumers safer."
