San Francisco Chronicle Launches New Weekly Arts & Culture Section

Ovation Set to Debut on Thursday, Nov. 5

SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwire - November 4, 2009) - The San Francisco Chronicle will introduce Ovation on Thursday, Nov. 5. Ovation is a weekly section dedicated to the Bay Area's vibrant arts and culture scene. It is presented as a new companion to the newspaper's indispensible Datebook and 96 Hours sections every Thursday.

"The Bay Area is known for its diverse arts and culture offerings," said Ward Bushee, executive vice president and editor of The Chronicle. "We are pleased to offer readers a new section that builds upon The Chronicle's outstanding arts and culture coverage in our Sunday and daily Datebook sections."

A guide to the best of the finer arts, Ovation will contain richer, deeper coverage of the region's arts and culture scene, with a particular emphasis on planning a four-day weekend.

The weekly, tabloid section will feature highlights of upcoming events such as classical music concerts, dance programs, theater and visual arts. It will also provide profiles of the creators, performers and innovators who shape the local cultural scene. The Chronicle's award-winning arts and culture columnists and reporters whom readers currently enjoy in the Sunday Datebook section, commonly referred to as "The Pink," will now provide additional coverage and reviews of the latest offerings from the Bay Area's top arts venues from the worlds of theater, music, dance and art.

The Chronicle is the Bay Area's most widely-read newspaper, recognized for its comprehensive coverage of local arts, culture and entertainment. In addition to its award-winning content and design, the newspaper and SFGate.com, its online home, offer a valuable medium for advertisers to reach an active, affluent audience who seeks out information about arts and culture.
