Saskatchewan Soccer Association and Saskatchewan Credit Unions: Soccerjam '07

REGINA, SASKATCHEWAN--(Marketwire - Oct. 2, 2007) - Saskatchewan Credit Unions and the Saskatchewan Soccer Association (SSA) are once again teaming up to provide an action packed family event - Soccerjam '07. Last year over 300 children and adults participated in this free event at the Credit Union Eventplex in Regina. This year's event on Saturday, October 27, 2007 promises to be just as exciting.

"As major sponsors of SaskSoccer, credit unions are pleased to be part of an event that promotes sport, fun and physical activity," says Keith Nixon, credit union spokesperson. "Participating in soccer can lead to new relationships, team and leadership skills and an appreciation of fair play. It is an activity that everyone can benefit from."

Soccerjam '07 is all about having fun whether you've played soccer before or not. Children aged 5 to 16 are invited to register for a two hour skills session. Saskatchewan Soccer certified coaches will guide participants through fun drills and an obstacle course where everyone can sharpen their skills or learn new ones for handling a soccer ball.

The second part of Soccerjam '07 is for adult and youth coaches (15 and over) who are interested in learning what it takes to become a soccer coach. If you've ever wondered about coaching a soccer team, these special introductory sessions will tell you what you need to know. SSA certified instructors will hold two hour introductory coaching clinics. Parents sign up for the coaching session while their kids are on the field. Afterwards, they can even try out their new found knowledge by joining the kids on the field and helping with drills.

Soccerjam '07 helps to enrich the lives of all of those who participate," said Boyd Clark, Executive Director of Saskatchewan Soccer Association. "Because of opportunities like this, the SSA through its wonderful sponsorship agreement with Saskatchewan Credit Unions, has had the opportunity to provide a positive impact on families in Saskatchewan. The introduction of Soccerjam has allowed the provincial association to introduce the world's game to those who may never have experienced the simplicity and the fun of soccer previously. Soccer's universality is its simplicity-the fact that the game can be played anywhere with anything. We are fortunate in Canada to have the access to the equipment we have, but in other countries around the world -- urban children kick the can on concrete and rural kids kick a rag wrapped around a rag, barefoot, on dirt. This is why soccer is truly the world's game. "
