Satsports Resorts Canada (SRC) announces to skiers and snowboarders across North America that Satski, the interactive GPS ski and snowboard application for mobile phones and GPS receivers, is now available for over 50 resorts in the US and Canada. Satski is written for Google Android and Windows Mobile, and will be available for iPhone and Blackberry very soon.

Satski was developed by Satsports Ltd., global leaders in mobile GPS navigation for outdoor athletes. The app was awarded honours in the Finals of the ISPO International "Brandnew" 2008/2009 Awards in the category "Best Sports Accessory". In January this year Satsports new Multi Sport GPS, which comes already loaded with Satski, golf, biking and running, was voted 5th in the 2010 Last Gadget Standing at the CES USA.

Satski has been on the scene in Europe since 2008 and this winter earned top reviews in tech circles like the Gadget Show, a popular technology review show in the UK. Satski is definitely more than just the trail map on a smart phone - it's a deep app that's starting to explore the capabilities of Smart Phone technology – like the Buddy Tracker feature that allows the user to see the location of up to five of her friends on the mountain in real time. It's like Google Maps for the ski hill - it means convenience, it means safety, and it's definitely satisfying knowing that you've just skied 28,000 feet of vertical!

According to SRC President Cory Leis, the release date of Satski for iPhone and Blackberry was moved ahead due to demand: "We're absolutely stoked to be bringing iPhone and Blackberry on board this winter, well ahead of schedule. The public response to the app when it was released for Android and WinMob said to us that users want well designed, practical mobile apps like Satski, not to mention the smart phone developers themselves who see Satski as an ideal app to showcase the potential of their latest technologies."

Satski provides users with these features:

  • Point-to-point route finding/navigation – Users can see their current location and navigate to points of interest including lifts and mountain restaurants;
  • Live statistics – Satski displays the users current speed, altitude and distance, and calculates their fastest speed (day and last 5 minutes) and total vertical;
  • Buddy Tracking – See the live location of up to 5 "buddies" on the mountain in real time, adding added peace of mind for families and groups;
  • Resort information – Looking for a cold beer & live music for après or maybe a spa after a day on the slopes? Satski has information on resort businesses and services, including an image and a direct dial option;
  • Emergency Contacts – Satski provides the user their exact GPS coordinates and direct dial to ski patrol;
  • Live Updates – Satski displays the current weather conditions according to the users location and is also capable of receiving SMS texts, updating the user with events and promotions etc.

The fun doesn't end when the lifts close. With Satski's Google Earth 3D replay of the entire day on the mountain, skiers and riders can re-live the experience and easily share it on facebook and by normal email attachments (see video). That way family, friends, and even the jealous dude in the next cubicle will feel what it was like to be on the mountain.

A one-year license for Satski is available from the SRC website for under $20 and gives the user access to all of the more than 200 ski resorts that Satsports has geo-plotted, and are listed on their website. In North America, Satski is available for more than 50 ski resorts listed below.

SRC has created more mobile apps for sports including golf, and running/hiking/biking that are available for Google Android, Windows Mobile and are coming soon for iPhone and Blackberry. Like Satski, the software is written to provide the user with a Google Earth 3D replay of their activity, regardless of location.

Pocket Caddy offers users:

  • 3D flyovers of the entire course or specific holes
  • Yardage to green and hazards
  • Shot recording, statistics and scorecard
  • DIY course mapping
  • Google Earth 3D replay of your round

Sports Log is designed for runners, hikers and bikers, providing users with live statistics – speed, distance and total vertical - and the replay on Google Earth 3D.

Also available from SRC is Satsports own multi-sports GPS receiver, an easy to use durable, weather resistant handheld GPS. It is the only GPS on the market that comes already loaded with sports software, including Satski, Pocket Caddy and Sports Log.
