Sauce Labs, the Selenium Company, Announces $3.1 Million Series A Financing Led by Contrarian Group

Sauce Labs Makes Selenium Cross-Browser Functional Testing Easy

SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwire - January 20, 2010) - Sauce Labs, the Selenium Company, today announced that it has closed a $3.1 million round of Series A financing led by the Contrarian Group, Peter Ueberroth's investment management firm. Founded in July 2008, Sauce Labs makes open source Selenium-based cross-browser software testing easy for businesses developing and testing web applications. Sauce Labs offers a cloud testing service called Sauce OnDemand, commercial support for Selenium, as well as commercial-grade versions with premium features. Selenium's creator, Jason Huggins, is a co-founder of Sauce Labs.

"Selenium has more than 2.6 million downloads and is in use at companies like Google, Yahoo, eBay, and Salesforce," said Huggins. "Many Selenium users building web applications are looking for support, enhanced capabilities, and ready-built, highly available infrastructure for their functional testing needs. Our mission is to meet these needs for the Selenium community and also for those not yet familiar with automated testing."

Web application developers have to keep up with frequent new browser releases from Internet Explorer, Safari, Firefox, Opera, and Chrome. As more applications are being built for the web, cross-browser functional testing is crucial to application performance. Selenium is the leading open source solution that addresses this pain.

"Selenium has proven to be a powerful and cost effective testing platform," said John Dunham, CEO of Sauce Labs. "We're fortunate to have the support of the Contrarian Group as our investment partner and plan to use the funds to make Selenium easier to use by a wider audience."

In addition to the funding announcement, Sauce Labs also announced today the release of Sauce IDE, an enhanced and certified version of the Selenium IDE open source record and playback system that allows individuals not comfortable with writing code the ability to do automated cross-browser functional testing. Sauce IDE tests can be run via Sauce Labs' Sauce OnDemand cloud service, providing parallel-capable speed, ease of set up, and video recordings of tests.

"Sauce Labs has the right sauce -- an extraordinarily strong management team, world class developers, and a deep connection with the open source Selenium community," said Dick Whilden, a Contrarian Group partner and Chairman of Sauce Labs. "Sauce Labs is uniquely positioned to make cross-browser functional application testing easier for developers and businesses working with web applications."
