Last month's Cheese for Charity Day at participating Pizza Pizza restaurants in Ontario and Quebec is about to put smiles on lots of kids' faces. The fund-raising effort in support of Pizza Pizza's Slices for Smiles program collected $41,000, which was remitted today to Big Brothers Big Sisters, an organization providing services to thousands of children across Canada.

"Our hats are off to the many people who made Cheese for Charity Day such a resounding success, either through their involvement, pizza purchases or in-store donations," said Pat Finelli, Chief Marketing Officer for Pizza Pizza. "To be able to raise such a significant sum of money in a single day requires a major collective effort, and the response to the October 17 Cheese for Charity Day event certainly attests to this spirit of collaboration."

On Cheese for Charity Day, participating Pizza Pizza restaurants sold cheese slices for $1.75, a $1.10 discount, and a medium cheese pizza for $5, a $2.75 discount, with a portion of the proceeds going to Pizza Pizza's Slices for Smiles Fund. The Slices for Smiles program raises funds to help sustain, nourish and brighten the lives of children everywhere. The first organization that Slices for Smiles has partnered with is Big Brothers Big Sisters.

Cathy Denyer, President, Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Toronto, accepted the $41,000 cheque from Mr. Finelli at today's ceremony marking the occasion.

"We are exceedingly grateful for this outstanding gesture of support from Pizza Pizza's Slices for Smiles Fund and the many people in the various communities who have contributed in any way," remarked Ms. Denyer. "This most welcome funding will not only bring visibility to our organization and its need for volunteers, it will serve to help Big Brothers Big Sisters continue in its mission to positively influence the lives of Canadian children."

Big Brothers Big Sisters provides direct service to more than 23,000 children by matching them to adult volunteers in quality mentoring relationships.
