Scalent Adds Support for Converged Network Fabric to Its Infrastructure Manager

Version 3.2 Adds Support for Cisco Nexus 5000 Switches and Converged Network Adapters From Emulex and QLogic

PALO ALTO, CA--(Marketwire - January 27, 2010) - Scalent Systems announced today the availability of Scalent Infrastructure Manager 3.2, the latest release of its leading software for real-time provisioning and automation of IT infrastructure. Scalent's Infrastructure Manager is unique in its ability to manage network, storage, as well as bare-metal and virtual servers on VMWare ESX, Microsoft Hyper-V, and Xen. The Scalent Infrastructure Manager is an OEM product available from Dell as the Dell Advanced Infrastructure Manager and from Unisys as uADAPT.

The Scalent Infrastructure Manager allows enterprise data centers to reduce costs and improve availability by implementing a dynamic approach to infrastructure provisioning. The Scalent Infrastructure Manager rapidly provisions what servers are running and how they are connected to networks and storage, without needing to make physical server, cable, or SAN changes.

The Scalent Infrastructure Manager allows data centers to migrate gradually to converged 10GigE networks. It simultaneously manages networks running 1GigE, Fibre Channel, as well as 10GigE and Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE). Therefore customers can begin with today's networks and gradually introduce converged networking under the same management umbrella.

Cisco Nexus 5000 Support. Scalent Infrastructure Manager makes the advanced capabilities of converged 10GigE fabrics easier to manage. Server addressing for Ethernet and FCoE is managed visually and virtual network topology is provisioned automatically depending on changing application needs.

Converged Network Adapter (CNA) Support. Scalent Infrastructure Manger 3.2 is compatible with CNAs from Emulex and QLogic. As customers transition to more advanced networks they can choose best-of-breed components for their infrastructure and have the assurance of a unified management framework.

"Scalent and its partners are aiming at the same goal -- to radically decrease cost and complexity in datacenters," said Benjamin Linder, CEO of Scalent Systems. "The addition of support for 10GigE, FCOE, and CNAs gives our customers the ability to easily bring this advanced technology into their existing environments in a non-disruptive manner. The support of Cisco, Emulex, and QLogic has enabled us to deliver a superior product."

Emulex Partner Quote

"Scalent's support of FCoE provides another important step in the build out of ecosystem support for network convergence," Steve Daheb, chief marketing officer and senior vice president of business development, Emulex Corporation. "The Scalent Infrastructure Manager automates storage access, greatly simplifying data center operations, which will become even more critical as IP and storage networks converge. Emulex and Scalent worked closely together to insure that critical Fibre Channel features, such as online boot-from-SAN and dynamic World Wide Name provisioning, carry over seamlessly into customers' new FCoE-based converged networking environments."

QLogic Partner Quote

"By adding FCoE support to its Infrastructure Manager 3.2, Scalent Systems is enabling its customers to easily migrate to unified 10GbE networks that can simultaneously manage both data and storage traffic," said Amit Vashi, vice president of marketing, QLogic. "Widely adopted by the industry's leading OEMs, QLogic's award-winning 8100 Series single-chip converged network adapters, combined with Scalent Infrastructure Manager 3.2, allow customers to leverage the ubiquity and economics of Ethernet while preserving Fibre Channel storage investments."

About Scalent

Scalent Systems is a leading provider of infrastructure provisioning software. The Scalent software enables data centers to react to changing business needs by dynamically changing what servers are running and how those servers are connected to network and storage. The result is a dynamic infrastructure, where data centers can transition between different configurations in minutes without physical intervention. Scalent's product is available as the Dell Advanced Infrastructure Manager and Unisys uADAPT. See for more details.
