Switched Digital Video (SDV) platform in the U.S. have
exceeded 7 million homes passed. Scientific Atlanta's heritage in digital
video has driven its success in the SDV arena, and this milestone shows
that Scientific Atlanta's proven SDV architecture is truly open and
confidently accepted in the industry. Today's announcement follows the
company's introduction earlier this year of its breakthrough
Universal
Session and Resource Manager™ (USRM™) as a software upgrade to
existing SDV servers in any network system.
By extending and distributing the management of the video and data network
control plane all the way to the "edge" of the network (generally speaking,
at the optical node), operators can maximize their network investment by
sharing quadrature amplitude modulators (QAMs) across both video-on-demand
(VoD) and switched digital video traffic.

streams and also performs ad insertion, rate shaping and transcoding among
different digital video formats

(IP) network over Ethernet

Allows the operator to understand capacity utilization and viewership
patterns; easily configured thresholds provide operators with early

network expansions as switched channel usage increases
