ScriptLogic's Desktop Authority Certified to Help Government Agencies Enforce Federal Desktop Core Configuration Compliance

Compliance Specialists Approve ScriptLogic's Flagship IT Management Platform for Compliance With FDCC Compatibility for Microsoft Windows XP and Vista

BOCA RATON, FL--(Marketwire - August 4, 2008) - ScriptLogic® Corporation (, a leading provider of systems lifecycle management solutions for Microsoft® Windows®-based networks, today announced that ScriptLogic's Desktop Authority® 7.8 is now certified by compliance specialists Secure Elements as compliant with the Federal Desktop Core Configuration (FDCC) standard. As an FDCC compliant application, Desktop Authority can operate on compliant networks without requiring exceptions to the FDCC standards.

"Secure Elements has successfully tested Desktop Authority version 7.8 for compliance with the OMB security requirements for FDCC compatibility for Microsoft Windows XP and Vista," said Scott Carpenter, director of Secure Elements' C5 Security Labs. "The results of these tests demonstrate that in each instance, the FDCC reference images remained 100 percent compliant with the security configuration tests represented in the NIST SCAP data streams."

Secure Elements' tests also concluded that the standard installation, operation, maintenance, update and patching of Desktop Authority will not alter the configuration settings from the current approved FDCC configuration.

As part of its ongoing commitment to federal government customers, ScriptLogic has released new tools to help government IT professionals enforce FDCC compliance. As agencies begin to implement FDCC policies, many confront a major obstacle. Applying FDCC policies uniformly organization-wide may disrupt essential business processes as mission-critical, non-compliant applications may require exceptions to those policies. Using the Desktop Authority FDCC Policy importer, federal agencies can import the NIST-provided group policies into a Desktop Authority profile. Then, using the patented Validation Logic, administrators can open exceptions only for those users or computers that require the non-compliant applications. This dynamic exception management allows agencies to use a single set of policies in their network, without disrupting critical processes. ScriptLogic has outlined this process in a free whitepaper, "Effective Desktop Management Under the Federal Desktop Core Configuration Standard."

"For agencies struggling with FDCC compliance, ScriptLogic's Desktop Authority offers the most comprehensive solution for addressing FDCC standards, allowing government IT professionals to simply import group policy objects from the NIST distribution into their Desktop Authority profile using our new FDCC policy import utility," said Ben Battle, vice president of development for ScriptLogic. "By offering dynamic exception management through Desktop Authority Validation Logic, ScriptLogic provides agencies with a 'Point, Click, Done' approach to FDCC regulations."

About FDCC Regulations

The FDCC standards represent a set of policies designed to provide a secure operating environment for desktop and notebook computers running in federal agencies. The standards insist on user, network and browser security policies. All agencies were directed by OMB to implement FDCC and report on their status by February 1, 2008.
