SemperComm Is Looking for a Few Good Congressional Cooks

"A Taste of Home" Needs Recipes, Photos and Notes of Good Will

SPRINGFIELD, VA--(Marketwire - October 10, 2007) - Capitol Hill, known for its frequent contentious rancor, is also a haven for heartfelt camaraderie when there's a delicious meal to be had. Knowing that people will put aside their differences when faced with tasty cuisine and support for U.S. service members, the SemperComm Foundation is gathering a collection of Capitol Hill's favorite recipes for a fundraising cookbook entitled, "A Taste of Home."

"We're challenging all the members of the House and the Senate to put their support for our troops into action and send us a recipe or two," said Lara Coffee, SemperComm's executive director. "We hope these recipes will help us pull together a unique taste of what home in America's all about, while supporting our ability to send some piece of American home life overseas to our adopted bases via our packages of free personal communications and entertainment capabilities."

SemperComm sends personal communications and entertainment equipment, software and services to small, remote overseas bases that lack much of the support for morale and welfare activities that many larger U.S. bases receive. The packages are sent at no cost to the military, and SemperComm maintains them with replacement parts and satellite services as long as they are needed. To date, SemperComm has adopted bases in Afghanistan, Iraq and Japan.

"To help us emphasize that feeling of home, we're also asking members to send us a photo or hand-written notes supporting the troops," Coffee added. Photos of members with military personnel; of a theme, like cold weather and hot soup; of a gathering of family or friends; or of some other activity that supports the recipe are welcome. A hand-written note of support for U.S. service members is welcome as a substitute for, or in addition to, a photo.

Recipes can be a single entrée, a dessert or a whole meal, and should reflect a favorite dish of the Senator or Representative. More than one recipe can be submitted, and details of how and where to submit recipes, photos and notes can be found at www.sempercomm.org.

All submissions are due by close of business Friday, Nov. 9. After collecting recipes, the book will be printed and sold to help support SemperComm's mission.
