Senators Set to Recognize Hockey Day in Canada Volunteers and Minor Hockey Team

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - Jan. 11, 2007) - In conjunction with CBC's Hockey Day in Canada celebration on Saturday, Jan. 13, the Ottawa Senators will recognize the West End Blackhawks novice A team, as well as minor hockey volunteers Bev Crepin, coach of the Metcalfe Jets bantam B team; and Stephane Girard, head coach of the Aigles de Gatineau atom BB.

The 2007 edition of Hockey Day in Canada focuses on celebrating the contribution of individuals to our national game during its 13 1/2 hour-long telecast beginning at noon ET on Saturday. Canada's NHL teams are meeting in CBC's traditional triple-header broadcast with the Senators hosting the Montreal Canadiens at 2 p.m., the Vancouver Canucks visiting the Toronto Maple Leafs at 7 p.m., and wrapping up with the Edmonton Oilers in Calgary to take on the Flames at 10 p.m.

The West End Blackhawks, a team of seven- and eight-year-olds, will attend the Senators team practice at 11 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 12, as well as receive replica Ottawa Senators jerseys to wear at the Senators home game on Hockey Day in Canada. The Blackhawks will also be featured on ice during the pre-game ceremonies and will stand behind singer Denise Gagnon-Lebrun during the national anthem.

Crepin and Girard, along with a volunteer representing the Montreal Canadiens, will drop the ceremonial puck prior to launch the Hockey Day in Canada's triple-header. The Senators have also provided tickets to the team and three volunteers.

The two Hockey Country volunteers and team were selected through nominations received from across the Ottawa District Hockey Association and Hockey Outaouais. Submissions included a 250-word letter outlining the extraordinary efforts and accomplishments of the volunteer or team.
