Sentry Select Capital Corp.: Toronto Answered The Bell! Canadian Tribute to George Chuvalo Raises Over $1 Million for Fight Against Drugs

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - May 11, 2006) - More than 900 people gathered at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre on Tuesday, May 9th to pay tribute to former heavyweight boxing champion George Chuvalo and to support his charity, Fight Against Drugs. "I am overwhelmed by the success of the evening," said Chuvalo. "Some of the most powerful businesses and unions in the country stepped up to show their commitment to making our communities stronger. It couldn't have been any better."

Celebrity guests in attendance included Darryl Sittler, Frank Mahovlich, Fergie Jenkins, Olympic medalists Anne Ottenbrite and Egerton Marcus, Carmen Basilio, Team Canada '72 members Rod Seiling and Ron Ellis, Sandy Hawley, Spider Jones, Rod Black, Hon. About George Chuvalo's Fight Against Drugs

Fight Against Drugs was established in 1996. Its objective is to reach teens at the time when they will make lifestyle choices which will impact the rest of their lives. Fight Against Drugs brings a hard-hitting 90-minute drug awareness presentation directly to the teens who need it most. Through relating the details of the loss of three sons and his wife to drug abuse and suicide, George addresses the most pressing youth issues today including gang violence, drugs and alcohol, bullying, and the growing drop-out rate. George speaks passionately about how substance abuse ruins lives and families, and how through education, family, perseverance and self-respect they can halt the spiral of despair and provide a positive future for themselves and their children.
