Serena Software Launches Suite of Application Solutions for Federal Agencies

Federal-Specific Applications Help Agencies Protect Computer Assets, Ace Financial Audits and Alleviate HR Headaches

REDWOOD CITY, CA--(Marketwire - November 16, 2009) - Serena Software, a leading application developer of lean business process management solutions, today launched a suite of application solutions specifically designed for federal agencies. The four applications equip agencies to manage information assurance vulnerability alerts (IAVA), comply with the Office of Management and Budget's (OMB) internal financial control mandate and automate processing of employee time-off requests.

"Serena Software developed these application solutions to help federal agencies better manage their most important resources: their people, their networks and their budget," said Dave Dantus, director of Serena Software Federal. "Many federal agencies have been duplicating each other's efforts by developing one-off solutions for process automation challenges they all face, but Serena Software's applications allow agencies to leverage and deploy best practices in process automation for challenges common to all federal agencies."

By giving federal network engineers, compliance officers, talent managers and internal auditors the tools they need to do their jobs more efficiently, agencies can focus their time, energy and efforts on their individual mission objectives.

Serena Software designed these individual application solutions to meet specific federal agency needs, including:

-- Information Assurance Vulnerability Management (IAVM), which ensures
appropriate contacts at federal agencies immediately receive Department of
Defense Computer Emergency Response Team (DoD-CERT)-created alerts,
generates easy-to-create standard reports for compliance audits and
minimizes delays that can cripple computer networks.
-- OMB Circular A-123 Compliance, which allows agencies to track
corrective action requests (CAR) and enforce controls across financial
processes so that agencies have audit records at their fingertips and can
generate reports quickly and within mandated guidelines.
-- Automating Employee Time Off, which automates employee time off (ETO)
requests for easy tracking, eliminates reliance on email or other non-
automated systems to check on requests, and reduces data entry time and
error rates by updating back-end systems with relevant information. This
application allows agencies to generate Office of Personnel Management
(OPM) 71 requests for leave or approved absences.

This suite of applications based on Serena Software's Lean Business Process Management (BPM) platform will put agencies at the leading edge of efforts to meet two of the major pillars -- namely, transparency and lowering the cost of government -- identified by Vivek Kundra, the U.S. government's new chief information officer, as essential to agencies' ability to transform themselves into 21st century organizations.

More than 200 federal civilian and defense organizations are already automating their business processes with Serena Software solutions. The company has earned a reputation for solutions designed to meet federal agencies' individual requirements, such as government-wide PDF document generation capabilities and support for the DoD common access cards (CAC).
