Serj Tankian's Debut Solo Album -- "Elect the Dead" -- Charts Around the World

Album Tops Alternative and Hard Charts in the U.S.; First Single "Empty Walls" Is #8 With a Bullet at Alternative and Rock Radio, Elite 8 on MTV2, and Heavy Rotation on FUSE

BURBANK, CA--(Marketwire - October 31, 2007) - "Elect the Dead" -- the first solo album from Serj Tankian, the visionary frontman for multi-platinum rock band System Of A Down, debuted at Number One on the Billboard Hard and Alternative Charts, Number Two on the Billboard Rock Chart, Number Four on the Billboard Top 200 Chart and Number Five on The Billboard Digital Chart. The album was released on October 23rd by Serjical Strike/Reprise Records.

Internationally, the album charted in Canada and Austria (Top 5), Germany (Top 10), Japan and Switzerland (both Top 20), and France and the UK (both Top 30). In addition, the album's first single, "Empty Walls," has been added to High Rotation Airplay on Triple J radio in Australia.

Domestically, the single, which was the Number One most-added track out of the box at both Alternative and Active Rock radio stations across the country, is Number Eight with a bullet at Alternative and Rock Radio. The video for "Empty Walls," directed by Tony Petrossian (Taking Back Sunday, Avenged Sevenfold), is part of the Elite 8 on MTV2 and in heavy rotation on FUSE.

"Elect the Dead" has already received glowing reviews from various media outlets including The Los Angeles Times, which called it "brutally engaging guitar-rock" with "steely lyricism and throttling textures," and Rolling Stone noted that it "delivers amped, intricate, and political hard rock," and Kerrang declared, "... a remarkable album." Tankian produced the album himself and played most of the instruments, though he was joined by guest drummers John Dolmayan (SOAD) and Brian "Brain" Mantia (Guns N' Roses, Primus).

Earlier this year, Tankian asked a collection of video and film directors, painters, and digital artists to each create a video for one of the 12 tracks on "Elect the Dead." On October 22nd, Warner Bros. Records, in conjunction with D&E Entertainment, held special screenings of all 12 visual interpretations of Tankian's songs, which were shown back-to-back at movie theaters nationwide to celebrate the album's release.

Tankian recently completed a mini promotional tour of the U.S. with his friend and Axis of Justice partner, guitarist Tom Morello, Saul Williams and Fair To Midland (on select dates). Next up, he joins Foo Fighters -- with whom he appeared last month at MTV's Video Music Awards -- overseas for a series of UK dates beginning with the MTV European Music Awards, tomorrow, November 1st.
