SharedPlan Software Announces SharedPlan Professional Edition 2.0 With RSS Publishing

First Project Management Software to Embrace RSS to Enhance Team Collaboration

BOULDER, CO -- (MARKET WIRE) -- August 8, 2005 -- SharedPlan Software, Inc., today announced the immediate availability of version 2.0 of SharedPlan Professional Edition, with new Really Simple Syndication (RSS) and iCalendar publishing capabilities for improved team collaboration. SharedPlan Professional 2.0 becomes the world's first project management application with the ability to publish plans, tasks, status, and other information in either RSS or iCalendar format, providing easy, efficient communication with team members. Team members can now view the latest project plan details directly in their browser or their calendar application.

With the introduction of SharedPlan Professional Edition, SharedPlan Software created a new model for project team interaction. Existing project management applications were complex and expensive, requiring specialized training and skills that forced companies to only provide them to project managers. With SharedPlan tools, every member of the project team can use the application and collaborate with teammates, allowing all members to contribute to the creation and maintenance of the plan, reducing plan risk. The new RSS and iCalendar capabilities in SharedPlan Professional 2.0 extend this collaborative model to new levels by making team communication fast and efficient.

The new capabilities extend the SharedPlan suite's leadership position as the premier project management toolset to improve team collaboration. "SharedPlan Software's goal is to improve the likelihood of project success by involving all project team members in the management process," said Roger Denton, company founder and CTO. "This involvement improves team commitment and performance, and the immediate communication provided by RSS and iCalendar is an important enabler."

RSS Finds New Application in Project Management

RSS stands for "really simple syndication" or "rich site summary," and provides a simple and efficient means to broadly publish information to interested parties. SharedPlan Software has now applied that model to provide project team members a means of checking detailed project plan and status information without having to open the source plan document. When team members, project sponsors, or other associated parties open their browsers, their browsers can immediately notify them of the availability of new information, which they can access merely by clicking on a browser link.

View Plans in Microsoft® Outlook with iCalendar

By also publishing information in iCalendar format, SharedPlan Professional enables team members to view project activities directly in their calendar application, either in the calendar view or their to-do list. iCalendar, defined in the IETF's RFC 2455, is supported by Outlook, Apple's iCal®, Mozilla Sunbird, and several other calendar applications.
