Shaw Donates $500,000 to Medicine Hat Historic Clay District

Record Donation to Revitalize One of Canada's Historic Treasures

CALGARY, ALBERTA--(CCNMatthews - Jan. 10, 2007) - Shaw Communications (TSX:SJR.B)(NYSE:SJR) today announced its proud support of the Medicine Hat Clay Industries National Historic District, one of Canada's historic treasures, with a $500,000 contribution committed over the next four years.

The single largest donation from a major Western Canadian corporation in the history of the Historic Clay District, the funds will be instrumental in supporting the Historic Clay District's current capital campaign, which will see the rehabilitation of the historic Medalta and Hycroft China Potteries into a living-working museum, educational facility and tourist attraction.

"Shaw has a long history of operating in Medicine Hat, and we feel it is important to contribute to the ongoing celebration of one of Alberta's first successful industrial complexes," said Peter Bissonnette, President of Shaw Communications. "The Historic Clay District celebrates a history of innovation, industry and ingenuity, and we are proud to demonstrate our commitment to the legacy of this district with this financial contribution."

The industries within the Historic Clay District date back to 1886, just three years after the community of Medicine Hat was founded with the arrival of the Canadian Pacific Railway. The clay industries were vital to the development of the city, and the products made became well known across Canada, giving the district a new identity and vitality.

"Shaw's generous donation is a significant gift for the Historic Clay District, and one that is integral to our fundraising program," said John Moldon, Chair of the Friends of Medalta Society, who oversee the Historic Clay District. "Shaw's participation in this project amplifies the importance of this historic resource on both provincial and national levels. We are thrilled to have Shaw's dedication and support for the project, which will only enhance the Medicine Hat community."

The City of Medicine Hat has pledged to match donations to the Historic Clay District at the rate of $1 for every $2 raised to a maximum of $1.9 million. Shaw's donation will significantly enhance the $775,000 currently received from the City.
