Sheppard Mullin Welcomes Antitrust and Banking Partner, Paul M. Kaplan, to New York Office

Former Epstein Becker Financial Practice Head Joins Growing Office

NEW YORK, NY -- (MARKET WIRE) -- September 6, 2005 -- Paul M. Kaplan has joined the New York office of Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton LLP as a partner in the Antitrust practice group. Kaplan, most recently head of the Financial practice group at Epstein, Becker & Green in New York, represents domestic and foreign financial institutions, and corporations on transactional, regulatory, antitrust, and international matters.

James J. McGuire, partner-in-charge of the firm's New York office, said, "We are very pleased to welcome Paul, who brings significant experience in both private practice and as in-house counsel. His substantial background in corporate law and antitrust matters is an excellent compliment to the New York office's strong, general litigation practice. Paul's addition furthers the reach of firm's national antitrust practice, which is already prominent on the West Coast and in D.C."

"It is a great pleasure to join Sheppard Mullin," said Kaplan. "I am impressed by the success of the firm's Antitrust and Finance & Bankruptcy practice groups and am excited about practicing with a top-notch, national firm in the growing New York office."

Kaplan represents both domestic and international financial institutions in a broad range of transactions and regulatory matters, including government enforcement proceedings. He also advises clients on the antitrust aspects of mergers and acquisitions and counsels corporations on the antitrust ramifications of business transactions to avoid or minimize legal exposure.

Prior to joining Epstein Becker, Kaplan practiced law for 20 years with major law firms, and corporations in the United States and Europe. After working in the legal department of AT&T, he served as a vice president with both legal and business responsibilities at Citibank, and with the predecessor bank to JP Morgan Chase.

Kaplan graduated from the London School of Economics, University of London (LL.M.) in 1978, Northeastern University School of Law in 1977, and Boston University, with distinction (A.B.) in 1973, as a Trustee Scholar. He clerked for the late Judge R. Ammi Cutter of the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court and Appeals Court in Boston. Kaplan has been teaching an advanced seminar in antitrust law since 1991 as an adjunct professor of law at Fordham Law School.
