Shop. Dine. Explore. Airport Celebrates Concessions Program

More Than 80 New Stores Are Now Open

ATLANTA, GA--(Marketwire - May 4, 2010) -  Mayor Kasim Reed and Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport officials today celebrated the opening of more than 80 new retail shops and providers of business, entertainment and personal services through its award-winning concessions program.

"I am excited to provide our 250,000 daily passengers with shopping options that will meet a variety of tastes and needs as well as provide a sense of place," said Aviation General Manager Ben DeCosta.

Some of the new stores are breaking ground at Hartsfield-Jackson -- and even in the nation. For example, Minute Suites, which rents five small rooms on Concourse B in which travelers can work or relax, opened in November and is the first of its kind in the United States. The Sean John clothing store and the BlackBerry store from Wireless Giant, both on Concourse B, were the first at any airport. Spring 2009 brought Hartsfield-Jackson's first full-service spa, XpresSpa, on concourses A and C.

Some shops present the best of Georgia and the South, such as the Georgia Aquarium's Beyond the Reef, Zoo Atlanta's Panda Veranda, Savannah's Candy Kitchen, Piedmont Park TravelMart, Café Intermezzo and Buckhead Books. The Atlanta Magazine HOME Store also carries merchandise with a Southern flair.

The Airport increased the number of upscale shopping options, especially on Concourse A, where a cluster of luxury shops -- including Ermenegildo Zegna, Salvatore Ferragamo and Bulgari -- opened in 2009.

The impressive work by the Concessions team earned several awards, including the Atlanta Business Chronicle's Best in Real Estate: Deal of the Year, Airports Council International-North America's Best Convenience Retail Program (large airport category) and Airport Revenue News magazine's Best Concessions Management Team. In 2009, the Airport's Concessions unit received the Airports Council International-North America awards for Concessions Person of the Year (Concessions director) and Best Convenience Retail Program in the large airport category.
