Sierra Geothermal Power Commences Seismic Survey at Reese River

Sierra Geothermal Power Corp. (SGP) (TSX VENTURE:SRA) announced today that it has started a seismic survey on its Reese River geothermal project in Nevada. The seismic survey will comprise six profiles totaling 27.4 kilometers, or 17 miles, and is expected to take approximately two weeks to complete.

This seismic survey will help the company gain a greater understanding of the subsurface geology in the Reese River property. Information from the seismic survey will aid in the resource model construction and the selection of drilling sites. The Reese River property is one of the most advanced projects in the company's pipeline, with an estimated potential of 15-30 megawatts, and is rated as one of the top ten undeveloped prospects in Nevada.

About Seismic Surveys

Seismic surveys identify structures and geological formations below the earth's surface by measuring sound waves. The speed of sound waves varies with the density of the rock they travel through. The seismic refraction method is based on the measurement of the travel time of seismic waves refracted at the interfaces between subsurface layers of different velocity. Seismic reflection profiling involves the measurement of the two-way travel time of seismic waves transmitted from surface and reflected back to the surface at the interfaces between contrasting geological layers. A seismic survey is done by setting up an array of sensors to record the soundings that are made by vibrating thumper trucks or explosive charges to create a sound wave.
