Significant RONA Delegation at Vancouver 2010 Winter Games: Nearly 90 Employees will be there as Volunteers

BOUCHERVILLE, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - Jan. 21, 2010) - RONA Inc. (TSX:RON), the largest Canadian distributor and retailer of hardware, home renovation and gardening products is proud to announce that some 90 RONA employees will serve as volunteers at the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver from February 12 to February 28, 2010. As a National Partner of the 2010 Winter Games, RONA is adding a very human side to its commitment to Canadian athletes and the Vancouver 2010 Winter Games.

This is one of the largest contingency of volunteers that any sponsor company is sending to the 2010 Winter Games. The employees, who come from all across Canada, were chosen by RONA based on their personal and professional qualities, they were then individually evaluated by the regular process managed by the Vancouver Organizing Committee for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games (VANOC).

A unique personal and professional experience

In the words of Christian Proulx, RONA's senior vice president of People and Culture, "Taking part in the Olympic Games will give these employees an extraordinary occasion to show RONA values, especially the spirit of service, teamwork, seeking the common good and a sense of responsibility. I'm sure that they will grow personally, and that they'll be able to share their experiences with their colleagues after the Games. All in all, it's a fantastic opportunity for the volunteers, for the other RONA employees, and for RONA itself."

RONA's 2010 Winter Games partnership

Sending so many employees to the 2010 Winter Games demonstrates the major commitment RONA has made as a National Partner of the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games and of the Canadian Olympic and Paralympic Teams until 2012. For example, thanks to the RONA Growing with our Athletes program, 100 of our best hopes at the next Olympic Winter Games and Olympic Games will each receive an $8,000 annual grant for five years. The company will also contribute $2 million to the Own the Podium! program, with the goal of making Canada the most decorated country in Vancouver. (Please see www.athletes.rona.ca.)

RONA also provided the building materials for a number of Olympic venues as well as to construct affordable housing in six British Columbia communities. Finally, the company set up the community-based RONA Vancouver 2010 Fabrication Shop to produce over 11,000 items related to the 2010 Winter Games. In short, as Christian Proulx says, "Cheering our athletes on, supporting the Vancouver 2010 Organizing Committee, getting our employees on board for the 2010 Winter Games and helping to create a lasting Olympic heritage - that's what RONA is doing - and doing it all out!"
