SILICON VALLEY, CA--(Marketwire - April 15, 2010) - The first three weekends of May mark the 24th year of Silicon Valley Open Studios (SVOS), an artistic staple in Silicon Valley which allows the public to visit Peninsula and South Bay Art Studios for free. This year also marks the third year of Open Studios for Schools, a chance for student artists to participate in SVOS by organizing a display of their art to learn how to prepare an exhibit.
Students at Mission College, San Jose State University, Evergreen Valley College, Foothill College, San Jose City College and the Palo Alto Unified School District are participating in this year's Open Studios event. With displays and demonstrations including painting, sculpture, digital media, metal arts and more, Silicon Valley Open Studios is proud to give tomorrow's artists a local spotlight today.
SVOS is a free event designed for the general public, art enthusiasts, art collectors and investors, educators and art students to spend some time in the comfortable setting of artists' studios, providing an opportunity to discuss the artist's attitudes and motivations, in addition to seeing art demonstrations up-close and first-hand.
This year Silicon Valley Open Studios features over 300 participating artists, including professionals, amateurs and students that work in a variety of fields such as painting, mixed media, photography, sculpture, jewelry, calligraphy, ceramics, fiber arts, pottery, mosaics, metal work, glass, drawing, printmaking, watercolor, woodworking and more.
Artist locations can be found online at www.SVOS.org along with information about each artist's medium, a map to their studio and contact information. Each studio is open to the public between 11:00am and 5:00pm in the following cities and dates:
Weekend One, May 1st - 2nd
Campbell, Cupertino, Gilroy, Los Gatos, Milpitas, Monte Sereno, Morgan Hill, San Jose, Saratoga. This weekend also includes San Jose State University, Evergreen Valley College and San Jose City College.
Weekend Two, May 8th - 9th
Atherton, Belmont, Hillsborough, Menlo Park, Portola Valley, Redwood City, San Carlos, San Mateo, Woodside.
Weekend Three, May 15th - 16th
East Palo Alto, Ladera, Los Altos, Los Altos Hills, Loyola, Mountain View, Palo Alto, Santa Clara, Sunnyvale. This weekend also includes Mission College, Foothill College and the Palo Alto Unified School District.
