Silver Peak Systems Expands Product Portfolio With Virtualized WAN Optimization

New Software-Only Solution Facilitates WAN Optimization Deployments, Lowers IT Investment Costs

SANTA CLARA, CA--(Marketwire - June 21, 2010) -  Silver Peak Systems, Inc., the leader in data center class Wide Area Network (WAN) optimization, today announced the availability of the new VX family of virtual WAN optimization appliances. By enabling Silver Peak's award winning network optimization features to run on standard hardware devices, the new VX family expedites testing and deployment of the Silver Peak solution, facilitates the movement of WAN optimization devices within and between enterprises, and lowers IT costs by leveraging existing virtualized hardware infrastructure.

"Advances in virtualization technology provide valuable new deployment options for high value services like WAN optimization," said Joe Skorupa, Research VP, Data Center Transformation at Gartner. "Virtual WAN Optimization Controllers allow customers to leverage relationships with their servers vendors to deploy WAN optimization on industry standard servers."

"Silver Peak's WAN optimization solution helps deliver cost efficient service to our customers while enhancing their overall experience with hosted Exchange services," said Brent Rich, vice-president of operations at Intermedia, the premier provider of business communications services, including hosted Microsoft Exchange. "By enabling companies to easily and cost effectively deploy WAN optimization in any location, Silver Peak's new VX appliances are a strategic enabler to various business initiatives, including our own cloud offering.''

Expanding Silver Peak's Product Portfolio
VX appliances are software-only versions of Silver Peak's award winning NX appliances, used to maximize application performance across the WAN while minimizing IT operational costs. Both NX and VX families use the same real-time network optimization techniques to overcome common WAN challenges, which include:

VX and NX appliances are managed using Silver Peak's Global management System (GMS), a complete platform for configuring, monitoring, and managing a Silver Peak-enabled WAN.

"The VX family is a natural complement to Silver Peak's existing NX product line, enabling Silver Peak's WAN optimization solution to be deployed quickly and easily in many enterprise environments," said Damon Ennis, vice president of product management at Silver Peak. "As the leader in data center class WAN optimization, Silver Peak is committed to leveraging important technologies like virtualization to lower WAN optimization investment costs and improve the overall WAN optimization experience."
