Sleep Country USA School Supply Drive Gets an "A+," Securing Nearly 34,000 Donations for Foster Kids

Outpouring of Support From Community Members and Businesses Helps More Than 26,000 Local Foster Children Start School With the Right Tools

SEATTLE, WA--(Marketwire - October 9, 2007) - Sleep Country USA (www.sleepcountry.com), the Northwest's largest seller of premium mattresses, delivers a sincere "thank you" to its community of individuals and businesses for their tremendous support of its 3rd annual school supplies drive for area foster children. With input from its foster organization partners on the most-needed school supply items, which included backpacks, pencils, pens, 3-ring binders, rulers, and notebooks, Sleep Country USA proudly returned a record number of nearly 34,000 donated items from the community and its employees.

"With many foster children moved from school to school, education presents a severe challenge leading them to repeat grades, struggle to fit in and keep up in class," said Paula Head, Olive Crest. "Education is crucial for these children to succeed in life and the support we get from Sleep Country's drives, especially the school supplies, enables us to give them the tools they need to be successful. It's hard for anyone to imagine a child going to their first day of school without a backpack, but that's often the case for foster children."

This year, the Sleep Country Foster Kids School Supply drive obtained a total of nearly 34,000 school supply items -- an increase of 14,000 items, 58% higher than last year's drive. The company attributes this success to the creative work by local individuals, like one six-year-old in Oregon who sold lemonade and cookies for six consecutive weekends to raise money to purchase school supplies to donate, as well as area businesses, like American Express who through office drives, offered significant contributions. The drive began on July 23rd, and ran through September 16th.

"It's amazing and heartwarming to see such an incredible increase in donations this year," said Terry Horsley, Vice President of Brand Strategy, Sleep Country USA. "Helping our foster children get a good education is paramount to paving the way for lifelong success, and we're proud to have such tremendous support from our community, local businesses and our employees."

Sleep Country USA knows that while not everyone can be a foster parent, anyone can help a foster child.
