Sleep Country USA Scores Big for Foster Kids Again in 2007

Annual Foster Kids Drives Secure More Than 51,000 Items, Up 38% From Last Year, and Raise $62K in Cash Donations for Local Foster Organizations

SEATTLE, WA--(Marketwire - January 14, 2008) - In its third year, the Sleep Country USA ( Foster Kids Program continues to inspire the community and draw a significant increase in donations for area foster children. Sleep Country USA, the Northwest's largest seller of premium mattresses, began its Foster Kids program in 2005 to respond to a growing need from the foster organizations in the communities where the company does business. Today, holding six drives and four events annually, Sleep Country USA proudly announced that with the help of generous donors, it has provided more than 51,000 items of essential material needs to its foster organization partners, as well as $62,327 in cash.

"This amazing partnership with Sleep Country USA lets the children that we serve know they are cared for," said Meg Eberle Director of the Foster Family Care Network. "Our children often come from homes where they have been abused or neglected and they have many challenges when entering foster care. Receiving essential basics such as shoes, coats, school supplies, and clothing helps our children feel comfortable with their peers and succeed in school. The opportunity to provide such items to our foster children brings a joy beyond words."

Sleep Country USA holds six annual drives, this year adding the Pajama Drive, which starts Monday, January 14th and runs through February 25th. The goal of the drives is to collect necessity items like new shoes, clothing, coats, school supplies, and during the holidays, toys and gifts. The company also holds Pajama Bowl fundraising events in the Seattle and Portland-area markets to drive awareness of the needs of foster children, while raising cash donations for its foster organization partners. And, last year Sleep Country USA partnered with Wild Waves & Enchanted Village to provide 800 admission tickets for local foster families to help them enjoy a day of fun that they might not otherwise be able to afford.

"Foster children need to know that their community cares about them and is actively pulling for their success and happiness," said Mark Fullington, executive director at Community & Family Services Foundation. "This is most effectively achieved when the kids can see and touch this support -- feel the warmth of their supporters in a new coat that buttons or a pair of pajamas so they can sleep comfortably during chilly nights. It's having brand new school supplies that prepares them for doing well in school, and a new pair of shoes that allows them to be on equal footing. Sleep Country USA's drives make this happen, and each year the community voice of support is getting louder thanks to this wonderful company."

"We are warmed by and tremendously proud of the support we receive from our communities -- businesses and individuals, and especially children that step up to help other children," said Terry Horsley, Vice President of Brand Strategy, Sleep Country USA. "We'll strive to raise the percentage of donations again in 2008 and applaud in advance the continued support we know we'll get from generous donors."

Sleep Country knows that while not everyone can be a foster parent, anyone can help a foster child. The company is accepting donations of new pajamas today at any of its more than 70 stores throughout Washington and Oregon. To find the store nearest you, call 888-88SLEEP or visit
