Small Business BC: Standing Room Only for Entrepreneur Showcase

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - Oct. 23, 2009) - BC's small business community turned out in force to meet 17 of BC's most successful entrepreneurs at Small Business BC's Entrepreneur Showcase on October 7th at the Hyatt Regency Hotel. A crowd of just over 400 enjoyed an evening of networking while gleaning secrets to success from some of BC's top businesses.

The event marked the launch of Small Business Month. George Hunter, CEO of Small Business BC, noted, "We were very pleased with the response from the small business community. The fact that the event sold out in advance indicates a healthy interest in entrepreneurship and a need to continue creating events which will bring entrepreneurs and the business community together."

"This year more and more entrepreneurs are looking for opportunities to not only share their successes, but find opportunities to collaborate on their fears and concerns about today's marketplace," says Linda Craenen, Director of Small Business, TELUS. "We were happy to be a part of such a successful event and see so many entrepreneurs connecting in an open environment, helping each other overcome their challenges through peer-to-peer learning."

"Small Business BC would like to thank our title event sponsor, TELUS, and our showcase exhibitors. Their level of commitment and participation made this event a resounding success," says Hunter.

George Moen, President of Blenz, The Canadian Coffee Company Ltd., delivered the keynote address. He impressed the crowd with stories and advice from more than 30 years of experience in food and franchising. Moen has used that expertise to grow the Blenz franchise to more than 100 locations around the world. Moen noted, "The Entrepreneur Showcase event was among the best I have attended! Blenz, The Canadian Coffee Company and I, personally, are grateful for having been included."

Other Entrepreneur Showcase exhibitors included Holey's President and CEO, Joyce Groote, President of West Coast Air, Rick Baxter, and Cybele Negris, Co-founder and COO of webnames.ca. For a complete list of showcase exhibitors go to www.smallbusinessbc.ca/showcase.
