Smart Serve Ontario Names New Executive Director

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - May 27, 2009) - Smart Serve Ontario, a non-profit organization that provides information about safe alcohol service at work and at home, is pleased to announce the appointment of a new Executive Director. Verity Dimock replaces outgoing Executive Director Diane Stefaniak, who is retiring after 13 years with the organization, on June 1.

Dimock brings to the position more than ten years of senior management experience in training and development, combined with an extensive knowledge of the hospitality and events industry.

Dimock is the former Executive Director of The Canadian Club of Toronto, and the first Director of Performance and Employee Learning with the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLGC). She is a founding board member of the Canadian Society for Training and Development, and a former chapter President of the International Society for Performance Improvement (ISPI).

Having grown up in a hospitality family in the Toronto area, Dimock is excited about joining Smart Serve and commented, "I'm keen to have the opportunity that Smart Serve presents to combine my understanding and passion for both hospitality and adult education and to help support the industry's ongoing improvement and health."

Dimock praised outgoing Executive Director Diane Stefaniak, who has been at the helm of Smart Serve almost since its inception, for building an important organization with a solid track record for promoting and teaching responsible alcohol service in Ontario and beyond.

George Schmalz, chairman of the board of Smart Serve, says, "Verity's background in training and development, and her skills in communication and partnership development, we believe will build on the strengths of her predecessor. Her skills will also help us continue to improve the training product and assessment of that product for the licensees of Ontario and their staffs."

Stefaniak agrees. "I'm leaving Smart Serve in very capable hands. Verity has a good understanding of the industry, its leaders and government leaders, and a solid background in human resources, organizational leadership and marketing. She'll move the organization forward."

Smart Serve Ontario, a non-profit organization, is a division of the Hospitality Industry Training Organization of Ontario. Since 1995 it has trained more than 700,000 people in the responsible service of alcohol.
