Solar Communications' Platinum Envelopes Outshine Standard Envelopes at The Same Mailing Rate

Special Materials and Sealing Process Are Pre-Approved by the U.S. Postal Service

NAPERVILLE, IL--(Marketwire - October 9, 2007) - Solar Communications, a full-service print and production provider, is introducing Platinum Envelopes, a metallic, three-sided sealed format that mails at the same rate as a standard envelope, at this year's Direct Marketing Association (DMA) conference in Chicago.

"This is a huge win for marketers," urges Frank Hudetz, Solar Communications president and CEO. "With recent postal changes many marketers were facing the possibility of not being able to continue mailing eye-catching designs, or if they did continue their budgets would be taking significant hits for postage alone. Platinum Envelopes allow marketers to express creative freedom, at the same mailing rate as an automated letter... now that's 'bringing sexy back.'"

By drawing on their packaging industry experience, Solar Communications has developed a laminated metallic poly and paper envelope that is heat-sealed on three sides, resulting in a projection-free, flat envelope that qualifies for the same rates as a traditional paper envelope. In addition to increasing the apparent value of the mail piece and drawing recipients' attention, the metallic poly helps protect contents from the elements. And an optional die-cut allows marketers to showcase contents through a protective window.

This new Platinum Envelope technique is made possible by Solar's recent $10 million capital investment in production equipment, undertaken in an effort to provide greater capabilities to clients. Solar's focus as a marketing production partner is to allow marketers to create exciting new formats quickly and cost-effectively.

"We recently did a cost-per-analysis estimate to anticipate where Solar's Platinum Envelopes would stack up when compared to a standard four color number 10 envelope. Using some historical client costs coupled with standard lifts seen when using a metalized format (traditionally 50% over control), our projections revealed that Solar's estimated cost-per-response would likely be upwards of an $8 savings per response," adds John Thompson, Solar Communications SVP of Sales and Marketing. "Granted these were 'what if' scenarios, but there is no denying that Platinum Envelopes are a real show-stopper -- they are attractive and high performers in the mail box or as an insert -- no one would ever expect them to be so economical to produce and mail."
