Sony Ericsson Unveils Latest Twitter World Cup Rankings

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwire - April 28, 2010) - With summer international football fever continuing to grow at a rapid pace throughout social networks and internet forums, Sony Ericsson has released the latest standings of its Twitter World Cup competition, prior to the finals this summer.

Having currently amassed just under 33,000 attendance points, England have stormed into the lead, followed by the host nation South Africa, with just over 23,000 points. Currently sitting in third are the USA with just under 16,000 points, who will be looking to generate plenty of conversation during the group stages of the final tournament with an underdog victory over England.

Each nation's attendance is measured by the number of fans mentioning their country in their updates on Twitter, with each mention achieving a number of attendance points depending on the content of the update. When added, these points make up the nation's total score. The overall rankings for each group can be found at www.sonyericsson.com/extraman/twittercup, along with real time updates as each nation's attendance increases and the Twitter World Cup stadium fills up.
