Spectrum's SDR-4000 to Support the Inmarsat BGAN Waveform from GateHouse

Enables software reconfigurable multi-standard Inmarsat BGAN satellite terminals and gateways based on a common hardware platform

BURNABY, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - July 22, 2009) - Spectrum Signal Processing by Vecima ("Spectrum") (TSX:VCM), an advanced communications equipment supplier, announced today that GateHouse Communications, a leader in satellite communications software, has selected Spectrum's flexComm™ SDR-4000 software defined radio (SDR) transceiver platform to port their Inmarsat Broadband Global Area Network (BGAN) SDR waveform. Inmarsat BGAN provides both commercial and military users with access to a reliable and mature global satellite communications network. Inmarsat BGAN can be found on land-portable, aeronautical, maritime, and vehicular products to provide broadband connectivity while on the move and in remote areas.

The SDR-4000 is a multi-purpose software reconfigurable transceiver that combines heterogeneous processing including digital signal processors (DSP), general purpose processors (GPP) and field programmable gate arrays (FPGA). The SDR-4000 is packaged in a small 3U CompactPCI® form-factor and is available in air-cooled packages for benign environments or conduction-cooled packages for deployments in harsh environments. Inmarsat Broadband Global Area Network (BGAN) is a 3G satellite communications system, operated by Inmarsat LLC. The system is served by three geo-stationary satellites and supports circuit and packet switched services with data rates up to 492 kbps bi-directionally.
