St. John's Episcopal School Appoints New Head of School

DALLAS, TX--(Marketwire - January 27, 2010) - Local educator Mark Crotty has been chosen to lead St. John's Episcopal School beginning July 1, 2010. His selection was unanimously endorsed by the St. John's Episcopal School Board of Trustees and culminates an extensive, six-month long national search.

"I'm truly honored to be called to lead St. John's," says Crotty. "The environment here is warm and welcoming and the students are open and confident. I can't express how excited I am to embark on this great opportunity."

Mark will join St. John's after nearly twenty years at Greenhill School in Dallas, where he has filled numerous administrative and teaching positions. During his tenure at Greenhill, Mark has been involved with every facet of school life -- from leading Greenhill through its rigorous Independent Schools of the Southwest (ISAS) reaccreditation to his current role as director of curricular programs -- and has proven himself a visionary administrator and a gifted, inspiring educator.

Working with the professional search firm, Carney, Sandoe & Associates, and led by Chairperson Michelle Patison, the St. John's Search Committee initially interviewed fifteen candidates for the position. Ultimately, four candidates, including Crotty, were invited to meet parents, teachers and school staff during a third round of interviews. Following the on-site interviews, Search Committee members agreed that Mark most closely fit St. John's candidate profile and seemed most in tune with the surrounding St. John's community. "We sought more than a resume," says Patison. "We wanted a person who truly fit the school and its culture. We found that in Mark Crotty." The new Head of School comes to the job with a certain familiarity with St. John's. "For years, I've been very impressed with the St. John's graduates who attend high school at Greenhill," says Crotty. "Getting to know the St. John's community helped me begin to better understand what a special place it is."

Mark chaired the Board of St. Christopher's Montessori School in Dallas, which his daughter and son attended. He and his family are active members of St. Christopher's Episcopal Church, where his wife, Sallie, is a Vestry member and he has taught in the Christian education program.

Before joining Greenhill, Mark spent seven years at The Episcopal School of Acadiana in Louisiana. There, he served as assistant to the headmaster and dean of students among other teaching and administrative roles. Throughout his long career, he has remained active and well-regarded in the independent school community, participating in peer-school evaluations, conducting workshops and seminars, and presenting at independent school conferences around the country.

In many ways, Mark personifies the best of St. John's: He's intelligent, spiritual, articulate and joyful. His contagious enthusiasm for education and thoughtful, measured style will serve him well as an advocate for St. John's both within and outside the school community. His exceptional leadership will advance the school's mission, inspire its faculty and enable St. John's to continue providing an innovative, balanced education to its students.
