Stan Griffin, President and CEO, Insurance Bureau of Canada to Address The Canadian Club of Toronto

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - Jan. 18, 2007) -

Attention: Assignment, Business and Photo editors

WHO: Stan Griffin, President and CEO, Insurance Bureau of Canada

WHAT: "What Are You Doing Behind the Wheel?"

A recent poll of Canadians found that 89% of respondents
were concerned about driver distractions such as talking
on a cellphone or engaging in a growing list of tasks
behind the wheel. But an alarming 60% of drivers indicated
they would not stop using their cellphones when driving -
even when told that cellphone use makes them four times
more likely to be involved in a collision. Canada's home,
car and business insurers want to change that.

On display will be the D.U.M.B. Car (Distractions
Undermining Motorist Behaviour), a unique interactive
driver distraction simulator that guests are invited to
test drive.

WHEN: 1 p.m. luncheon address - Friday, January 19 2007

WHERE: Fairmont Royal York Hotel, Imperial Room

BACKGROUND: On January 11, the industry released the results of a
research study it commissioned on driving while distracted.
Mr. Griffin will share the results of this research and
explain how the industry is planning to encourage drivers
to think about their own driving habits and change
their behaviour if necessary.

He will also provide details of IBC's $4 million
multimedia public education campaign to remind drivers to
keep their eyes on the road and avoid distractions
while driving.
