Standard Life Staff Court Amicus Union

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM--(CCNMatthews - Jan. 24, 2007) - Amicus Britain's biggest private sector union will today announce that it intends to submit a formal request to Standard Life to discuss a future relationship with the company.

Amicus held an open meeting for Standard Life staff in Edinburgh today at which 550 staff attended which we believe is in excess of 10% of the staff working for Standard Life in Scotland.

The meeting was initiated by Standard Life Staff and held as a result of hundreds of Standard Life employees joining Amicus over the past few weeks. Amicus believes that concerns over changes to the company pension scheme and the company's recent demutualisation has led to growing concern amongst staff.

Amicus National Officer David Fleming says,

"Amicus will be submitting a formal request to meet with the management of Standard Life to discuss a future relationship. Amicus' involvement has been driven by the staff themselves and the turnout at today's meeting shows the strength of feeling amongst staff.

Amicus has long standing relationships with many of the top names in the Scottish Financial Services and understands the challenges that staff and companies face in a highly competitive industry."

Amicus Regional Officer Willie Gibson added,
"The company has traditionally been very paternalistic, but things have changed, and I think there is a lot of concern about what might happen in the future. When a company demutualises it can become a victim of a predator."
