Statement From Public Safety Minister Peter Van Loan on the Death of RCMP Sergeant Mark Gallagher

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Jan. 14, 2010) - "I extend my deepest sympathies to the family, friends and colleagues of RCMP Sergeant Mark Gallagher, who was killed in this week's devastating earthquake in Haiti.

Sergeant Gallagher, a dedicated husband and father, leaves behind his wife Lisa, and their two children Shane and Heather. To Lisa and his children, I want to extend my deepest sympathies. His death is a tragic loss to the RCMP, and all Canadians.

Sergeant Gallagher was selfless in his contribution to help make Haiti more safe and secure. His dedication and commitment serves as a reminder of the contributions of all Canadians who work abroad to help make streets safe for others.

Rescuers continue their search for RCMP Superintendent Doug Coates. Our thoughts and prayers are also with him and his family during this difficult time.

We must always remember the courage of our law enforcement men and women who work every day to keep the rest of us safe."
