Statement by the Honourable Gary Lunn, Minister of State (Sport), Congratulating the Canadian Athletes Who Took Part in the World Track and Field Championships in Berlin

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Aug. 24, 2009) -

The Canadian athletes who participated in the World Track and Field Championships in Berlin did an outstanding job in their disciplines.

Sport is a defining part of our identity as Canadians. Every athlete who represents Canada in a competition of this stature is a source of pride for each and every one of us.

Our Government recognizes the hard work and dedication of our Canadian athletes.

On behalf of Prime Minister Stephen Harper, the Government of Canada, and all Canadians, I would like to commend all the athletes who brought us honour at the World Track and Field Championships and, especially, Priscilla Lopes-Schliep, who won a silver medal in the 100 m hurdle event. Your tremendous achievements have made us proud.
